Ottawa's last game was a 5-1 regulation loss at home to the Frost, and they have one win in three games played so far.
Toronto's last game was a 3-1 regulation loss to Boston and they have one win in two games so far this season.
The schedule for the PWHL this year has been odd, to say the least. Toronto has begun by playing three games spread over two weeks. and will shortly have another 10-day break before a flood of games over the Christmas season. No one is really in the flow of playing on a schedule yet.
Sceptres
The last game was a very well-played affair by Toronto, but they got beat by some timely goals from Boston. Toronto has kept to the low-scoring standard of the PWHL, and has been getting very good goaltending while they aren't putting the puck in the net very much.
That has to change.
Charge
You'll likely hear this more times than you need to tonight, but Ottawa has played three games and all have had a four goal differential. Their one win came in a 5-1 drubbing of Vancouver. Tonight's game is their first road game of the season.
Their loss to the Frost two days ago had them almost eerily equal in shots on goal period by period, and they were shooting nearly the same quality as the Frost. Sometimes it's just not your day.
This game was coached on the bench by Haley Irwin as Carla McLeod missed a day for cancer treatment. McLeod intended to be available for tonight's game, and she also intends to coach Czechia in the Olympics.
The Game
Toronto welcomes Ottawa for the season’s first edition of the PWHL’s only provincial rivalry. The Sceptres are hosting Stick It To Cancer Night presented by SharkNinja, which coincides with Charge Head Coach Carla MacLeod’s first game behind the bench since she bravely shared the news of her breast cancer diagnosis on Sunday.
Fans are also encouraged to bring a new, unused toy for the Sceptres’ second-annual Toy Drive in support of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
